Savannah House

Currently, you are standing in Foxfire’s oldest structure:  a one-room log cabin built in the 1820’s. This cabin consecutively housed three family generations, each of whom had 10 children. During the 18-and 1900s, community was an essential part of culture.

This cultural emphasis is reflected in Foxfire’s philosophy, including the student-produced magazines. The fourth Foxfire Core Practice states that “the work teachers and students do together enables learners to make connections between the classroom work, the surrounding communities and the world beyond their communities. Learners’ work will bring home larger issues by identifying attitudes about, and implications of, those issues in their home communities.”
